Miu Miu goes 1960s Manhattan chic for Fall/Winter 2015 Collection

For her Fall/Winter 2015 collection at Paris Fashion Week, Miuccia Prada makes day clothes for the New York party girl, much like Audrey Hepburn’s party girl in Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961).  It’s a collection inspired by 1960s Manhattan where Audrey Hepburn in Tiffany’s stole plastic animal masks from the five and dime store dressed in an orange overcoat. It’s also inspired by a New York where women in Mia Farrow pixie haircuts could strut in shift dresses en route to their day jobs. Miuccia works with the palette of oranges, blacks, teals, browns as well snakeskins, leopard prints and crocodile. With these elements she paints the image of a fun independent woman. Despite all the clashing colors and patterns, there’s simplicity to the clothes, with some outfits working better than others. I’ve picked the top 10 best outfits from the Fall/Winter 2015 Miu Miu collection that all different kinds of women can wear.

#10 Mia Farrow in Rosemary’s Baby comes to mind in that croc vest dress in butterscotch. It’s youthful, fun and very 1960s, but it’s the croc texture that gives the look some edge.

This double-breasted plaid coat plays like a coatdress due to the micro-mini skirt she’s probably wearing underneath. The sunglasses have a 1980s style that’s chilly and powerful.

A black velvet dress that Mia Farrow would rock, but those bondage heels are pure 1980s/early 1990s power chick.

The hounds tooth overcoat is reserved and sophisticated, but what’s underneath the coat is a hint at fun: a cape neck blouse and an orange croc micro-mini that wouldn’t be out of place in the movie Clueless. That snakeskin trim on the coat also spices up the look.

The dress has also resembles a schoolgirl jumper and not unlike Dorothy’s gingham dress in The Wizard of Oz.

A hounds tooth halter dress with a sexy slit that’s less innocent than the pinafore.

This look brings to mind the 1950s shirtdress with its shirt collar and fit-and-flare skirt, but the eyelet puff sleeve sweater has a 1980s silhouette and the holes in it turn the stripes of the blouse in striped Easter eggs. The peep toe plastic heels are bright and youthful.

The teal and white cheetah print overcoat avoids vampy thanks to the fun teal color. The striped sweater and hounds tooth micro-mini are undeniably preppy. Those teal sunburst earrings keep the look sophisticated and self-possessed.
