I bet you didn’t see that coming — a Barbie doll clone is a high honor? It is if you’re body image activist, Ashley Graham.
Graham was presented with the Barbie during the Glamour Magazine Women of the Year Awards, of which the model was recognized for her involvement in inclusivity in the fashion industry.
Graham’s message to the audience was simple:
“I let my body hold me back for so long. Don’t let your body hold you back.”
The Barbie sports Ashley’s signature curves and, yes, the thighs do touch. Graham told the Huffington Post that, “The number one prerequisite, was that her thighs touched. I was like, ‘Guys, we can make this Barbie, but if her thighs don’t touch, she’s not authentic.’”
The special edition Barbie comes shortly after Mattel released three new sizes of Barbies this past year, featuring Tall, Petite and Curvy dolls.
